IBIZA, June 1999
The Neergaard family had its Christmas reunion in June this year (easier that way!).  We were twelve, all of us there except Arthur, who was diverted by a last-minute business matter.  Most of us gathered the previous weekend at Sue and Jan Willem's in St Annaland in the Netherlands, then made our various ways to the small Spanish island of Ibiza, in the Mediterranean south of Barcelona, near Majorca.

Peter managed the coordination of time and place, a task akin to keeping twelve puppies under a blanket, and one for which he merits resounding applause.  He ended up putting us all at a Club Med which offered, bless them, child care as well as the full range of beach resort activities, of which here are some pictures:

The sports were great, but the food was, well, superb.  After all Club Med is French, so dining is a highlight of a holiday there.  Of course it's not just the food, it's the company.  Two members of this company created a particularly unforgettable moment, when uncle Peter and his nephew Samer held a brrrraaatttttt-ing contest at dinner (it was really all rather untoward, but there wasn't a soul in the dining room who could keep from laughing).

For those who wanted a relaxed interval, there were shady palm trees, and the pool, and the chance to browse a variety of impromptu diversions such as dance lessons or a bit of Flamenco.   Those with an urge for culture - or shopping -  could hop onto the local bus and in ten minutes, be exploring the old town of Ibiza.

Those who preferred to create their own amusements could, well..... blow bubbles!

Aside from the fact that Willem managed to locate - and push - the Evacuate Airplane alarm button on boarding (yep, chaos ensued), even the trip there and back was pleasant.

Another thing at which the French excel - besides cooking - is the creation of a cordial, light-hearted environment.  The real delight of Ibiza was of course, for all of us - grown-ups, grandsons, and Baby Lila, our new grand daughter, to be there together.
