"Florence's father was Thomas Bound; she married Edward William Treadaway Hoare (his 2nd wife of 3) in Devonshire in 1906, separated in 1912. Their older son married Phyllis Marie Stanners, perhaps others, and emigrated to Africa.

Will be glad to exchange information."

SUBJECT: Hoare: Edward W.T. b 1864; his sons Edward b 1865, Edmond, Alexander, & Eric Lester

Author: Richard Neergaard Date: 7 Jan 2005 2:05 AM GMT

"I'm researching the life of Edward William Treadaway Hoare, b Clerkenwell 1864, d Bournemouth 1927. He was married three times, in 1884 to Alice Day, divorced in 1905; in 1906 to Florence Bound, separated in 1912; in 1923 to Elsie Hooper. I'm searching for descendents of these marriages, the first of which produced two sons, Edward in 1885 and Edmund in 1889, born in Islington, London; the 2nd also produced two sons, Alexander in 1907 and Eric Lester in 1909, born in Axmouth, Devon; the third marriage produced one son, Colin, in 1923 born in Bournemouth.

I'll be glad to provide more information to anyone interested."

POSTINGS and RESPONSES on GENEALOGY.COM Re HOARE FAMILY MEMBERS FROM MUSBURY, DEVON - INCLUDING a JAMES, a WILLIAM, and an EDWARD

Of interest because when EWTH left London, he chose that neighborhood of Devon to move to, and re-named the residence he bought there, "Musbury House".   His selection of location may have been a result to his having relatives there, so that these postings may refer to a branch of his family.  We've as yet had no response to our followup messages - sent alas three years after the original postings.

I'm studying a branch of the Hoare family that was centered in Clerkenwell, a district of London. There were three generations of "James Treadaway Hoares" starting in the early 1800's. Edmund Downer Hoare was the brother of the second of these James's; Edward William Treadaway Hoare was Edmund's son, and is the specific target of my research.

In 1890's, Edward inherited money and left London to settle in Axmouth. This was strange as he was a very gregarious man with lots of connections in London. In any event, he bought a house in Axmouth that he named Musbury House. It's certainly plausible that his choice of a location for self-exile was prompted by the fact that he had relatives there.

The purpose of this note is to ask, in view of your Musbury-Hoare connection, if any of the above data coincides with any of yours - specifically the middle name "Treadaway", or any connection with the branch of the Hoare family headed by James, born ~1806 in Clerkenwell, London, Middlesex, who married Jane Hill, then Sarah Ann Cutler.

I have a HORE/HOARE etc., family from Devon.

I have a James HOARE who was born in Axminster in 1771. He was a Revenue Officer (Customs Inspector in today's language) and married Dorothy HUETT.

Their son, Benjamin, born in Musbury in 1793 became a Master Mariner in the merchant navy.

They all seem to have been mariners in this family. Benjamin had an illegitimate son, Benjamin Bartholomew, born in 1836 in Jamaica and he, too, became a master mariner in the merchant navy. This Benjamin Bartholomew's eldest son, Benjamin, born in 1871 in London, also joined the merchant navy, but he didn't like the sea life and jumped ship in Australia in the 1890s

Any connections to any of these Benjamins? (or to James?)

Dear Lyndall

I have recently started researching my Hoare ancestry. So far the details are:
Edward Hoare (Born: Musbury, Devon circa 1810 - Dairyman) married Amelia Snell (Born: Shute, Devon circa 1818) on 23 March 1837 at Colyton, Devon.

Children:
Ann Amelia (B: c.1838 - Colyford, Devon) m. Walter Johnstone
Edward (B:26 Oct 1839 - Colyford, Devon) m. Catharine Jones
Virginia (B: c.1844 - Colyford, Devon) m. Samuel Pike?
Emma (B: c.1848 - Colyford, Devon) m. Oliver Wills
William (B: 1851 - Colyford, Devon) m. Eliza ?
Thomas S. (B: c.1853 - Colyford, Devon) m. ???

The family moved between the 1851 & 1861 Censuses to Hambridge, Somerset, where their daughter, Ann Amelia was married to a sailor. Edward Hoare, her brother, was my great-grandfather. He, too, was a sailor. The others seemed to earn their living off the land. By 1881, Edward & Amelia were living at Chard, Somerset, on their own farm, called "Nuts Hole Farm". Their son, Thomas was also living & working on the farm. Amelia died in 1893.

Edward (B: 1839) at some stage left the navy & went to Wales, where he worked as a gardener & married Catharine Jones. They married in Mold, Flintshire, in 1871 & emigrated to New Zealand, on the "Fernglen", arriving here in November 1879.

There may or may not be a connection here.
