Subject: Hoare Genealogy
Dear Mr. Neergaard,
Thank you for your enquiry regarding the genealogy of the Hoare family.
We
have several sources here for the families Hoare of Stourton and Hoare of
Luscombe which are connected with this bank. Unfortunately, I can see no
mention of either Edward William Treadaway-Hoare or Edward Downes Hoare
in
any of our sources. Though there were a couple of Partners who had to leave
the Bank for indiscretions in the 1880s which might fit with the people
you
are looking for. Do you have any further information on what the
misbehaviour was that resulted in the Partner being disowned?
Confusingly there are two other Hoare families which have been connected
with other Banks named Hoare. The first is Hoare of Gatley Hall which had
links to a bank called Hoare, Barnett & Co. which is now a part of Lloyds
TSB Bank Plc. Secondly a Hoare family in Ireland called Hoare of Anabella
connected with a Bank in Cork. However I have thoroughly looked through
the
Burke's peerage entries for both of these families and have not found the
people you mention in your letter. You could try asking at the Lloyds TSB
Archives to see if they have any further information. There address is as
follows:
Lloyds TSB group Archives
25 Gresham Street,
London
EC2V 7HN
I am sorry not to have been of much help on this occasion. If you have any
further information I can try again to match it up with our information
on
the Hoare family that run C.Hoare & Co.
Yours sincerely,
Barbra Sands
